Congress wins Amod Nagarpalika
BHARUCH: The magic of chief minister Narendra Modi failed to work in the local body elections at Amod and Tankariya. Not long ago, the Modi magic had played a major part in BJP winning all the nagarpalikas, which went to polls in Bharuch. This South Gujarat district has three nagarpalikas. Amod - a taluka place in Bharuch district-was declared a nagarpalika five years ago.
BJP captured the Amod Nagarpalika by winning 11 of the total 21 seats last time. Congress has wrested the civic body from the BJP's control. The BJP has lost on 15 seats. The BJP has won just two wards and six seats in the seven wards of Amod nagarpalika. Congress posted a huge win by winning 15 seats in 5 wards. There were a total of 59 candidates in the fray.
"We will rule the Amod Nagarpalika. We will ensure that our councillors give attention to each and every issue of the town. Our win is also due to the internal rivalry in the BJP," said Congress MLA Kiran Makwana from Jambusar. The BJP also lost the elections to Tankariya gram panchayat. It has also gone to the Congress. A blame game has already started in the BJP after the defeat of the party at Amod and Tankariya. Local BJP leaders are blaming Gujarat Pradesh BJP secretary Bharatsinh Parmar.
"The state unit of the BJP had given the responsibility of managing the affairs of the party in the elections to Bharatsinh Parmar as he is from Bharuch district. However, Bharatsinh did not choose the right candidates," a senior BJP leader said.
